60th National Film Awards conferred by President in New Delhi on 3rd May, 2013; Government to institute Centenary Award recognizing Paradigm Transformation in Film making |

The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee conferred the film awards for the year 2012 in various categories at the 60th National Film Awards Function held at the Vigyan Bhawan on 3rd May, 2013. In his address, the President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said, Cinema must be used to portray positive societal values for building a tolerant and harmonious India. The film industry ought to take steps to ensure that cinema was morally energizing. Another highlight of the evening was the release of postal stamps of 50 iconic personalities of Indian Cinema by the President to commemorate the century long journey of Indian cinema. Hon’ble Minister for IT & Communications, Shri Kapil Sibal and Hon’ble Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri Manish Tewari were also present on the occasion. |

Centenary Film Festival Inaugurated |

Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri Manish Tewari inaugurated the Centenary Film Festival at Siri Fort in New Delhi on Thursday, 25th April 2013. As part of the Festival, screenings of classic and contemporary films, an Exhibition on 100 years’ journey of Indian cinema, Workshops by Central Board of Film Certification and Retrospective of Satyajit Ray are scheduled as major attractions.
In his address, Shri Manish Tewari said that the Government would make all possible efforts to make India a major international filming destination. |

60th National Film Awards for the year 2012 Announced |
|
The prestigious 60th National Film Awards for the year 2012 were announced in New Delhi in a joint Press Conference addressed by the Chairpersons of the three juries, Shri Basu Chatterjee for Feature Films, Ms. Aruna Raje for Non-Feature Films and Shri Swapan Mullick for Best Writing on Cinema on Monday (18th March 2013). The top honour in the feature film category goes to Paan Singh Tomar (Hindi) produced by UTV Software communications Ltd. and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia . In non-feature film category, the top honour Best Film goes to Shepherds of Paradise (Gojri & Urdu) produced and directed by Raja Shabir Khan. In Best Writing on Cinema section, the book Silent Cinema in India – A Pictorial Journey (English) written by B.D. Garga and published by Harper Collins Publisher India has bagged the top honour, whereas Shri P.S. Radhakrishnan has been declared the Best film Critic. |

India committed to combat film piracy and protect copyrights |

India is committed to support a copyright regime that promotes creativity and to take effective steps to combat piracy of films and music. The recently amended Indian Copyright Act is progressive, enhances equity and will provide impetus to creativity. This was reiterated by Shri Uday Kumar Varma, Secretary, Information and Broadcasting while addressing a seminar as part the inaugural session of a festival of Indian films to commemorate the centenary of Indian cinema at WIPO, Geneva on Monday, the 3rd Dec, 2012. |

DFF organises Film Festivals to commemorate centenary of Indian cinema |
|
To commemorate the centenary year of Indian cinema, Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) in association with National Film Archive of India, Pune is organising centenary film festivals in state capitals with the collaboration of state governments. Landmark Indian films are being screened during these festivals as a tribute to the great film personalities. Centenary film festivals at some locations abroad are also planned to showcase and promote Indian cinema.

DFF organises a Retrospective of Rajesh Khanna |
| Directorate of film Festivals organised a Retrospective of Rajesh Khanna from 18th to 20th August, 2012 in New Delhi. Ten of his landmark films were screened during the three day event at Sirifort Auditorium. These include Aap Ki kasam, Aradhana, Aakhri Khat, Amar Prem, Kati Patang, Ittefaq, Avishkaar, Bawarchi, Safar and Anand. The inaugural programme was graced by Hon’ble Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting, shri Choudhury Mohan Jatua, Hon’ble Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Rajeev Shuka, Ms Dimple Kapadia, veteran film director, Mr J Om Prakash and Ms Rinki Khanna. |

The Festival organized by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of I&B, screened 24 featu9re films 21 Non-feature films which have won recently announced 59th National Film Awards. |

Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Hon’ble Vice President of India gave away 59th National Film Awards on 3rd May 2012 in a glittering ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New delhi. Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2011 was conferred upon Shri Soumitra Chatterjee. DEOOL (Marathi) and BYARI (Byari) films shared top honours in Featue Film category. Girish Kulkarni won Best Actor award and Vidya Balan, Best Actress. Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Smt Ambika Soni, Hon’ble Ministers of state (I & B) Shri Choudhury Mohan Jatua and Dr S. Jagathrakshan and Secretary, Shri Uday Kumar Varma were also present. |
